New Zealand has one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world. Early detection and management of skin cancer offers the best chance of treating the skin cancer in the least invasive manner. We encourage self-monitoring of your skin for any changes in your skin, either new spots developing or existing spots that are growing, changing, itching, bleeding or not healing as you would expect. We also recommend a regular full skin check with your GP or with someone specifically trained in skin cancer detection. A full skin check requires a full appointment time (sometimes a double appointment depending on your skin) so please ensure when you attend for these checks you don’t come with a list of other matters to be discussed, as this sometimes distracts from a thorough skin check.
